Flying to Namibia

Most international hunters arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) outside Windhoek.

Depending on your country of departure, international connections to Namibia are available through several major hubs. If you are travelling with your own rifle, always check the firearm and ammunition requirements of your airline and any countries through which you will transit before booking your flights.

Once you arrive in Namibia, your Zana Botes Safari adventure begins.

Namibia Visa on Arrival

Before travelling, every guest should check the current Namibia visa requirements for their nationality.

Namibia offers a Visa on Arrival system for travellers from eligible countries. Visitors can apply through Namibia's official online Visa on Arrival portal before travelling, or eligible travellers can complete the process on arrival at designated Namibian ports of entry, including Hosea Kutako International Airport.

When preparing to travel, make sure your passport meets Namibia's current entry requirements and have your supporting travel documents readily available.

Because immigration regulations and fees can change, we strongly recommend checking the official Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs Visa on Arrival information before departure.

Travelling to Namibia with a Hunting Rifle

Hunters may travel to Namibia with their own hunting rifle, subject to Namibia's firearm import requirements.

If you plan to bring a firearm, let us know well before your safari so that you have time to prepare the necessary documentation. You should also confirm your airline's rules for travelling with firearms and ammunition, as well as the regulations of any country where you will be connecting.

Alternatively, speak to us about rifle availability for your hunt if you prefer not to travel internationally with your own firearm.

What to Bring on a Namibia Hunting Safari

Packing correctly can make a big difference to your Namibia hunting experience. Namibia can have warm afternoons but surprisingly cold mornings and evenings, particularly during the winter hunting months.

We recommend packing light, practical clothing that can be layered as temperatures change throughout the day.

Hunting Clothing & Equipment

Bring comfortable hunting clothes in khaki, olive, brown or other neutral colours. Your clothing should be quiet, practical and suitable for walking through the Namibian bush.

We recommend:

  • 2–3 lightweight hunting shirts

  • 2 pairs of comfortable hunting trousers

  • Warm fleece or jacket

  • Windproof outer jacket

  • Comfortable, well-worn hunting boots

  • Quality hunting socks

  • Hat or cap

  • Sunglasses

  • Sunscreen and lip balm

  • Binoculars

  • Small daypack

  • Camera or smartphone

  • Chargers and spare batteries

  • Personal medication

  • Insect repellent

  • Basic toiletries

Do not arrive with brand-new hunting boots. Namibia hunting safaris can involve many hours of walking and stalking, so comfortable boots that have already been properly worn in are highly recommended.

Prepare for Cold Mornings

One of the most common mistakes first-time visitors make is assuming that Africa is always hot.

During Namibia's winter months, early mornings and evenings can be very cold, even though daytime temperatures may become warm and comfortable.

Layering is therefore important. A warm jacket or fleece that can easily be removed as the day warms up is one of the most useful items you can bring on your safari.

Don't Forget Your Binoculars

A good pair of binoculars is one of the most important pieces of equipment on a plains game hunting safari in Namibia.

Much of your hunt can involve glassing hillsides, valleys and open bush for animals such as kudu, oryx, eland, zebra and wildebeest. Good binoculars make the experience considerably more enjoyable, even when you are not carrying the rifle.
